Language, Culture and Learning (EAL/D)

English as an Additional Language or Dialect

Western Cape College values the rich linguistic and cultural strengths our students bring to school, including Aboriginal English, Torres Strait Creole (Yumplatok) and other home languages.

Our Program

Our program intentionally supports students learning Standard Australian English (SAE) as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D) through:

  • Explicit teaching practices
  • Visual supports and oral language development
  • Culturally responsive teaching
  • Embedded language support across all subjects

This ensures students can fully access the curriculum while maintaining strong cultural identity.
