Queensland's Preparatory Year gives all young Queenslanders the very best start to school by helping them make a smooth transition to Year 1 and sets them on the path to lifelong learning.
Preparatory Year is a full day, five-day a week program where students focus on learning through structured activities that are designed to develop and where applicable, enhance literacy and numeracy skills.
Children must be 5 by 30 June in the year they start Prep. To determine when your child can commence their Preparatory year, use the
Prep Ready Reckoner.
Prep at Western Cape College
At Western Cape College we are dedicated to making each child’s introduction to the schooling process a warm, secure and enjoyable experience. We hold a Prep Information evening in October and/or November each year and orientation mornings for our incoming Prep children every November. In addition, we ask Prep children and their parents to attend an interview with our Deputy Principal before the school year commences.
Kindergarten and Centre Visit
During the month of November children from our local Centres and Kindergartens will be invited to attend a morning session in the Prep classrooms.
These sessions run from 9.00am - 10.30am.
During this time the children will be involved in a range of activities with classroom teachers and parents are also invited to come along and take a tour of the school with our Deputy Principal (K – Year 1).
If your child does not attend one of our local Centres or Kindergartens they are welcome to join any of our available sessions. Information is available closer to the date.
