​​​Primary Student Leadership​

The Primary Student Leadership Program at Western Cape College provides students with valuable opportunities to develop leadership, responsibility and teamwork skills through active participation in school life. The program encourages students to become positive role models who contribute to a supportive, respectful and inclusive College culture. 

Students in leadership roles, including Primary Captains, Vice Captains and House Captains, participate in a range of experiences that strengthen communication, confidence and collaboration skills while supporting the wider school community.

Throughout the year, student leaders: 

  • Lead and support Primary Assemblies and special events 

  • Represent the College at ceremonies, sporting carnivals and community occasions 

  • Promote the College expectations of Safety, Learning and Respect 

  • Encourage participation, teamwork and school spirit within their house groups 

  • Support younger students and act as positive role models 

  • Contribute ideas and feedback to enhance school life and student wellbeing 

Students gain: 

  • Practical leadership experience in a supportive environment 

  • Opportunities to develop confidence, communication and teamwork skills 

  • School-based leadership recognition and responsibilities 

  • Experiences that support future leadership pathways within the College and community ​

Secondary Student Leadership​

The Secondary Student Leadership Program offers students meaningful opportunities to develop confidence, responsibility and real-world leadership skills through active involvement in school and community life. The program supports students to grow as leaders while making a positive contribution to College culture. Students participate in structured training, practical leadership experiences and recognised programs that promote personal development, service and teamwork. 

Students engage in the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award at Bridge, Bronze, Silver and Gold levels, developing skills in service, physical recreation, personal interests and adventurous journeys to support their leadership journey.

Throughout the year, student leaders: 

  • Plan and lead initiatives supporting wellbeing, sustainability, inclusion and community engagement 

  • Represent the College at school and community events and official functions 

  • Build confidence through public speaking at assemblies and events 

  • Mentor younger students 

  • Participate in leadership camps focused on teamwork, resilience and communication 

Students gain: 

  • Completion of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, recognised by universities and employers 

  • Potential contribution toward QCE requirements through eligible leadership and service activities 

  • School-based leadership recognition and certificates 

  • Pathways and future opportunities ​

The program develops transferable skills that supports future leadership roles, community involvement, tertiary study and employment. Students are empowered to become confident, capable leaders who positively impact their school and community.
