Instrumental Music Program

Years 3–12

Instrumental Music Program  

The Instrumental Music (IM) Program at Western Cape College offers students from Years 3–12 the opportunity to learn an instrument, read music and perform alongside their peers.

What Students Develop

Through the program, students develop:

  • Musical skills and confidence
  • Coordination, discipline and resilience
  • Teamwork and time management

Program Structure

  • Weekly 30-minute group lessons (3–5 students) focusing on instrumental fundamentals
  • After-school ensemble rehearsals from Term 2, building performance and collaboration skills

Assessment and Pathways

  • Assessed each term in line with the Instrumental Music Curriculum
  • Progress reported on report cards
  • Senior participation (Years 11–12) may contribute towards the QCE

Performance Opportunities

Performance opportunities include:

  • School assemblies
  • End-of-Year Musical Showcase
  • Nomination for the State Honours Ensemble Program (SHEP) for selected students
