Overview
The Australian Health and Physical Education curriculum develops healthy and active citizens with critical inquiry skills to analyse and understand the influences on their own and others' health, safety, wellbeing, and physical activity participation. HPE develops knowledge, understanding and skills for students to take positive action to protect, enhance and advocate for regular movement-based activity, personal identity and wellbeing, and respectful relationships.
Senior Secondary Subjects
In Senior Secondary, students can study the following subjects:
Health
Health focuses on building lifelong wellbeing through understanding factors that influence health. Students investigate health issues, analyse information, and develop strategies to support positive change for themselves and their communities, with a focus on resilience and healthy relationships.
Sport & Recreation
Sport & Recreation explores the role of physical activity in individuals and communities. Students participate in and study sport and recreation activities, developing skills, teamwork, and understanding of health, safety, and wellbeing. They also learn about the impact of sport in Australian culture, technology in sport, and how it supports personal growth and community outcomes.
Social and Community Studies
Social & Community Studies develops personal, interpersonal, and citizenship skills to help students become self-reliant, responsible, and community-minded. It builds communication, problem-solving, decision-making, and teamwork skills while encouraging respect for diversity, resilience, and preparation for future study, work, and life.
