Watercolours
Year 7 students have been busy improving their watercolour techniques. Their progress from the beginning of the term until now is immeasurable. Currently showing is their final piece, inspired by the famous Indigenous watercolourist, Dub Leffler and his book – 'Once there was a boy'. Walk through the student's experimental works first and then through to their final piece. They are very proud of their work.
Self-portraits
In 2023 Year 8 Art students successfully undertook a drawing module. The central theme of this module revolved around delving into representation, portrayal, and identity. The students were led through a process of honing their drawing abilities and engaging in contextual inquiry, enabling them to uncover the depth of knowledge inherent in Ah Kee's artistic endeavours. Additionally, the objective was for students to employ these newfound understandings to shape their own self-perceptions and utilise their heightened awareness to create self-portraits reflecting on connections to their respective worlds.
Pop Art
This semester Year 9 Art students explored painting and sculpture. In their Pop Art unit, students explored colour theory and the practice of visual appropriation. Whilst referencing the work of both Roy Lichtenstein and Richard Bell students created an appropriated painting that responded to a localised issue, unique to remote living in Cape York. In their Sculpture unit they created masks that challenged or commented on Australian perspectives of identity. Examining Ahad Al Amoudi, Paulina Osipova, Karolina Romanoska and Ricardo Idagi, they explored symbols and form.
