Schools are busy areas, where there are often lots of children—who do not always understand the danger of roads and vehicles. Areas in and around schools can present parking problems as there may be speeding motorists, limited parking spaces, and busy roads.  Please make sure to take extra care when parking on the roads and streets around the Weipa Campus.

Parking rules apply around schools, especially around school entrances, and in a designated school zone, parking restrictions may be stricter than normal.

Below are some parking DOs and DON’Ts to assist:

DO's

  • Be aware

  • Be courteous

  • Be responsible

  • Use the 2 minute parking bays to "kiss and go"

  • Observe and adhere to all regulatory signage

  • Make sure passengers use the footpath side door when getting in and out of the car

  • Drive to speed limit

DON'Ts

  • Block driveways

  • Park on footpaths

  • Park in bus zones

  • Obstruct pedestrian crossing

  • Double park or park where there are no designated parking bays

  • Do not perform a U-turn at intersections or across double white lines e.g. Eastern Avenue or from one side of the road to the other between breaks in the traffic

In addition, Western Cape College asks parents who utilise the car parks at Memorial Square to be respectful of the businesses in this precinct.  Where possible, please park in the car parks adjacent to the Assembly Hall, rather than the parks behind the businesses.  This will ensure that the customers of these businesses have ready access to car parks.

Lastly, please remind children who ride to school they must wear an approved bicycle helmet. Remember, children do not have the same level of road sense that adults possess, so lead by example and show how things should be done. The safety of our children is paramount.
