Principal's welcome

Welcome to Western Cape College (WCC), a P-12 state educational facility that is focused on being a school of choice for students from Cape York and beyond, and one that is widely renowned for educational excellence in the tropics.
WCC strives constantly to create an environment in which every student is inspired to be the best they can be through the provision of opportunity and choices. We develop and foster personal growth of our students through leadership opportunities, as well as the various academic, vocational, and extracurricular opportunities our College provides.
The Prep to Year 12 structure significantly enhances educational outcomes for students while facilitating the seamless transition through the different phases of learning. It also provides students with the opportunity to enrich their learning through access to the extensive range of facilities of a college.
Within our increasingly positive culture we believe all students have the right to:
  • a safe, supportive and disciplined learning environment
  • a futures orientated, accessible, socially just and relevant curriculum tailored for individuals and groups
  • a creative and individualised schooling experience that focuses on diversity, flexibility and the building of the social capital of remote communities
  • support from teachers who operate as active professional learners within a culture of high learning and performance expectations.
Our strong business and university links, together with our community partnerships, enable our students to access a wide range of opportunities and pathways that connects the personal development of students with real world experiences.
At WCC we believe that schooling is a positive partnership between the home, school, and the wider community, and that the stronger the relationship the more likely that our students will succeed.
We greatly value parent and community involvement as fully as time and commitments allow.
Our College's relatively remote location should not be seen as a disadvantage, rather our unique setting should be seen as a positive challenge that needs to be embraced and celebrated.
In 2017, WCC embarks on the next stage of its evolution as we look to innovatively realign our structures and systems so as to ensure optimal effectiveness.
Happy students, happy teachers, happy parents, happy employers - that's what we all want to see, now and into the future!
