Principal's welcome

I would like to welcome everyone to our Western Cape College (WCC) website. The website is designed to provide parents and other community members an interactive and comprehensive outline of the College’s operations that are designed to ensure the very best learning environment for all our students. It is also an important platform to acknowledge the fantastic achievements of our students and staff.

WCC is a state schooling facility that caters for young people aged 4 to 18, and we are focused on being a high quality schooling option of choice for students from the Western Cape communities of Napranum, Weipa, and Mapoon.  Uniquely, we also cater for students who enrol with us via our Residential Campus who come from a range of Indigenous communities across Cape York and the Torres Strait. WCC's relatively remote location is not seen by us as a disadvantage, rather our unique setting is as a positive challenge that we embrace and celebrate.

Within an increasingly positive workplace culture, WCC strives to deliver a consistent, high quality schooling experience for all of our students.  We strongly believe that:

A positive workplace allows for every child to access quality schooling in a safe, inclusive, disciplined and supportive learning environment.

Every WCC student is capable of learning and succeeding – and this is the basis of their sense of belonging at our College.

Quality teacher instruction and feedback are the greatest influence on student academic achievement.

Education is a tool for change, and any change process needs to be inclusive of creativity and innovation, as well as a sense of wellbeing for all.

Parents/caregivers are a child’s most influential teacher, and the critical role of any school is to support them in educating their children.

Sophisticated data sets should be used to inform the College improvement agenda.

Our strong business and university links, together with our community partnerships, enable our students to access a wide range of opportunities and pathways that genuinely connect schooling with real world experiences and pathways.

In 2018, WCC as a schooling organization will continue to evolve as we look to innovatively realign our structures and systems so as to ensure optimal effectiveness.  We know that our College’s culture will be at its best when we see and hear around us happy students, happy teachers, happy parents, and happy employers - that's Western Cape College, now, and into the future!
